Superior : towards the head

Inferior : towards the feet

Anterior : front of the body

Posterior : towards the back of the body

Medial: towards the midline of the body

Lateral: towards the outside of the body

Proximal: towards the point of origin

Distal: away from the point of origin

Ipsilateral: on the same side of the body

Contralateral: on the opposite sides of the body

Superficial: towards the surface

Deep: away from the surface
